Work Hours Calculator

Enter shift start and end times, break length, and days per week to total your working hours per day, week, month, and year—including shifts that cross midnight.

Formula

Daily minutes = end − start − break. If the end time is earlier than the start time, 24 hours are added before subtracting the break. Weekly minutes = daily minutes × days per week. Monthly minutes = weekly minutes × 52 ÷ 12. Annual minutes = weekly minutes × 52.

Example

A shift from 22:00 to 06:00 with a 30-minute break is 7 hours 30 minutes a day. Five of those days are 37 hours 30 minutes a week, 162.5 hours a month, and 1950.0 hours a year.

Assumptions

The break is unpaid and is removed once per shift. Monthly hours use 52 weeks ÷ 12, not the number of weekdays in the current month.

Limits

Start and end cannot be the same time. A break that is as long as the shift, or longer, is rejected. The page does not stack two shifts in one day or apply overtime rules.
