Savings Goal Calculator

Set a savings target, what you have already saved, and your monthly income and expenses. See how much you can put aside each month and when the goal could be reached.

Formula

Monthly amount available = monthly income − monthly expenses. Months = the unpaid part of the target ÷ that monthly amount, rounded up. The date adds that many calendar months to today. Progress = current savings ÷ target.

Example

A $10,000.00 target with $2,500.00 already saved, income of $4,800.00 and expenses of $3,300.00, leaves $1,500.00 a month. From 1 March 2026 that gap takes 5 months and lands on 1 August 2026. Progress on these figures is 25.0%.

Assumptions

The monthly amount stays the same. No interest, investment return, or inflation is applied. The example date is 1 March 2026; the calculator uses today’s date when you run it.

Limits

If the target is already saved, the wait is zero. If income does not exceed expenses, no finish date is shown, because the gap does not shrink. This is not a forecast of markets or of your actual bills.
